Guardrails Against Grieving and Quenching the Holy Spirit

Listen to podcast audio:

Misunderstanding of the Holy Spirit has run rampant, even in the church. All too many Christians fall into two extremes, either grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit. This week, Gary Wilkerson and Bob Ditmer discuss the modern church's charismatic chaos and charismatic quenching the Holy Spirit.

Key Points from the Podcast

  • Many Christians will avoid the Holy Spirit because of the weirdness, abuse and mystery often associated with the Holy Spirit.

  • The Holy Spirit is the living agency of the work of God in us by the fruit of the Spirit and through us by the gifts of the Spirit.

  • Sadly, in the church today, we see a lot of people at either end of the spectrum between charismatic chaos and charismatic quenching.

  • We see in the Bible that our character and conduct can grieve the Holy Spirit when they don’t line up with the Word of God.

  • Don’t allow doubt or fear to quench the work that the Holy Spirit wants to do through your life.

  • The Bible says that the Holy Spirit gives gifts as he wills, but that we can also ask for certain spiritual gifts.

  • Let your motivation to receive and operate in the gifts of the Spirit be a love for God and others.
