Christ's Light

in Iran's Darkness

Iranian Christians fleeing violence and persecution have found refuge and hope through the prayers and generosity of faithful supporters.

For many in the West, life in a war zone is impossible to imagine. Most of us have grown up only knowing peace. But imagine enduring war while also being persecuted for your faith. This is the devastating reality for Christian believers in Iran.

The war has intensified the persecution of Christians, especially converts from Islam. Many have faced raids, arrests, threats, and acts of violence at the hands of militant Muslims. Numerous families, many with young children, have fled their homes seeking refuge and safety.

Through our trusted underground partners, World Challenge has been helping vulnerable individuals escape from these dangerous areas inside Iran to safer border regions. Families arrive exhausted and traumatized, with little more than the clothes they carry. But thanks to faithful donors stepping in, we have been able to provide food, shelter, medical support, and spiritual encouragement to those in desperate need.

Despite the hardship and persecution, testimonies of unwavering faith are emerging. The following are two stories of displaced families who have experienced God’s remarkable protection and provision.

Hope That Cannot Burn

Ebi* and his wife, Lila*, lived quietly with their three children in a crowded neighborhood where rising conflict and instability had made daily life increasingly dangerous. Rumors quickly spread that the family had become followers of Jesus after attending secret gatherings with other believers.

Then one terrifying night, armed radicals stormed their street, shouting threats against Christians and accusing the family of betraying their religion. Their small home was attacked and partially burned while frightened neighbors watched in fear.

As Ebi tried to protect his family, he was severely beaten and suffered multiple broken bones.

Under the cover of darkness, the family escaped with only a few clothes and a carefully hidden Bible. For several days, they endured hunger, exhaustion, and constant fear. Yet in the middle of their suffering, God made a way.

World Challenge partners eventually found the family and brought them to safety. Today, they are living in a secure location and receiving food assistance, medical treatment, trauma care, and spiritual support.

Though Ebi lost his home, he has not lost his faith. He told our partner, “War took away our home, but Jesus gave us hope that cannot burn.”

“War took away our home, but Jesus gave us hope that cannot burn.”

From Silence to Safety

Seven-year-old David* lost his voice the day armed men raided his family’s home in Isfahan. He watched in terror as shouting filled the house, furniture was destroyed, his mother was thrown to the ground, and his father was arrested.

David’s father, Kamal*, had quietly led many Iranians to Christ, never imagining that someone the family trusted would betray them to extremists.  After the attack, David stopped speaking entirely. His mother, Anna*, feared the trauma of that night had permanently scarred him.

Then the threats began. “You must leave this faith,” they warned Anna, “or your child will grow up without a father.” But Anna refused to deny Christ.

Through our trusted partners, plans were made to move David and Anna to safety. The journey was dangerous, and every checkpoint carried the risk of discovery. Traveling in secret, they survived through God’s protection and the kindness of fellow believers who risked everything to help them.

Eventually, they reached a secure location. And then, after weeks without words, David began to speak again.

Later, Kamal managed to escape and was reunited with his family. Though he had endured brutal beatings and burns, God preserved his life. Today, the family remains in a protected location while receiving care and support through World Challenge’s ministry partners in the region.

Together, We Can Bring Hope

Because of the prayers and generosity of believers like you, World Challenge has rescued and provided critical relief to persecuted Christians in Iran. Lives have been protected, families cared for, and hope restored in the midst of unimaginable suffering.

Yet there is still an urgent need. Many more believers, including orphans, widows, and vulnerable families, continue to face severe oppression, persecution, and violence because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Your financial gift will ensure our partners reach them.

World Challenge is committed to supporting frontline ministries as they provide life-saving aid and spiritual encouragement to those in desperate need. Together, through prayer and generosity, we can bring Christ-centered care and the love and hope of Jesus to those who need it most.
