Breaking the Chains of Malnutrition
Your generosity is reaching the poorest nations—rewriting orphan stories with hope for their future.
Many of our partners who serve orphans and vulnerable children in extreme poverty describe malnutrition as a silent crisis and an ever-present reality. Children move slowly without energy, and their bodies are smaller and weaker for their age. Without nutrition, they struggle to play, to learn, or even to walk. Every child suffering from malnourishment has a heartbreaking story, but through the compassion of World Challenge donors, stories of hope are rising.
Hope Against Odds

At just seven years old, Esther is already defying all the odds stacked against her young life. Born in a poor village in Malawi, she had no parental care and was diagnosed with HIV. Alongside this health challenge, malnutrition was weakening her body, and this combination made her defenseless against infection. Urgent intervention was critical for Esther’s development and survival.
The turning point came when Esther was enrolled in one of our supported care centers. Immediately, she began receiving proper nutrition and medical treatment. This marked the beginning of her recovery and transformation. She also began attending school and was provided with a school uniform and shoes, which she wears with pride and self-assurance. Today, Esther is now regaining her health, confidence, and renewed hope.
Esther’s transformation shines a light on what is possible as we work to break the chains of malnutrition in communities around the world. Her story is also a testament to the five pillars of care we provide: a loving home, essential nutrition, medical care, education, and biblical discipleship. This integrated support gives children like Esther not only a chance to survive but also to thrive and build a brighter future. Esther is just one child’s story, but thousands more are in reach.
Reaching the Unreached
What sets World Challenge apart is that we go to the most difficult and unreached regions of the world. Our foremost mission is to share the eternal hope of Jesus Christ with orphans and widows, yet we recognize that true compassion begins by caring for people’s physical needs as well as their spiritual ones. Jesus’s ministry on earth taught us this through the feeding of the 5000 (see Matthew 14).
Starvation is a relentless global crisis. Our priority is to meet it with urgency—feeding first, then sharing the hope of Christ while building sustainable solutions that last.
World Challenge is reaching lives across 32 countries because of faithful partners like you. Alongside our trusted partners, we are confronting the despair of poverty in 6 of the world’s 10 poorest nations, reaching those who need it most. More than 42,000 orphans, widows, and vulnerable individuals are receiving care, nourishment, and renewed hope. This impact is only possible because of people like you who feel called to live out James 1:27, bringing Christ-centered care into places of deep need.
Will you join us in prayer for the resources to reach and nourish more people in the most desperate places? Pray that communities would be strengthened with lasting solutions that empower families to provide for their own needs. And above all, pray that as physical hunger is met, hearts would be opened to experience the life-changing love of Jesus.
