Samueline and two orphans

A Widow’s Hope for Three Orphans

Samueline’s Story

When our partner in Madagascar met Samueline, she was carrying an overwhelming burden. As a 54-year-old widow, she was raising her three orphaned granddaughters alone: a six-year-old and one-year-old twins. Their mother tragically died one month after the twins were born, leaving Samueline with little income to care for their needs.

To survive, she washed laundry for her neighbors, but it wasn’t enough. The twins were often hospitalized due to malnutrition, and with no money for milk, she gave them tea to quiet their hunger. The toddler girls became too weak to sit, crawl, speak, or reach basic developmental milestones.

Then everything began to change. Our team visited Samueline’s home, sharing the hope of Christ’s love, praying over the children, and reminding her that she was not alone. They also provided her with monthly support for food, milk, clothing, and medical assistance.

Through this outpouring of care, Samueline encountered the life-changing love and mercy of Jesus. Today, she faithfully attends church twice a week, joining others in prayer and Bible study. She has surrendered her life to Christ, dedicated her grandchildren to him, and is now preparing for baptism as she continues to grow stronger in her faith.

“Today, my heart is full of joy,” she shares. “My hope is alive because of the greatness of God’s love.” Samueline’s name is a variation of the Hebrew name Samuel, meaning “God has heard.”  How fitting for a story marked by faith and provision. God met her in her need! Though challenges remain, Samueline stands firm in her faith. The twins are growing stronger, and the family is sustained not only through the generosity of our faithful partners but by the unshakeable hope found in Christ.

At World Challenge, our vision is a world where every orphan and widow in crisis experiences the love and care of Jesus Christ. Thank you for being a part of stories like Samueline’s, where compassion meets the gospel, and lives are forever changed!
