Every Kid Should Have a Good Night's Sleep

Bring Mercy Everywhere

Bring mercy and hope to orphans and widows today

For an orphan, good rest is hard to come by…

Millions of children around the world don’t know the feeling of waking up well-rested.
Most of them have no raised bed. No mattress. No pillow.

Tonight, while many parents tuck their children into comfortable beds with soft sheets, millions of other children will lie down on cold dirt floors, thin mats, or shared spaces. And that's if they're lucky.

A bed is often something we take for granted, but for a child living in poverty, it is a gift of dignity, protection, and hope.

An estimated 1.6 billion people live in inadequate housing: without electricity or sanitation, with leaky roofs, and with concrete or dirt floors. An estimated 300 million people live on dirt floorsthe majority are children.

In Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, where World Challenge is most active, over 50% of children in the poorest communities sleep in overcrowded rooms, often sharing a single mat or sleeping directly on the ground.

Orphans are 30% less likely to have basic household amenities—like a bed or mattress—than children who live with at least one biological parent.

Why a Bed Matters

A bed changes everything for a child living in poverty
A bed gives rest and hope

When children sleep poorly:

  • Their bodies are more vulnerable to illness
  • Their minds struggle to focus
  • Their school performance declines
  • They are more prone to suffer from anxiety and depression
  • Their future opportunities diminish

Research shows that sleeping on dirt floors, in constant noise, in overcrowded conditions, and without proper bedding creates a cycle of poverty.

A lack of sleep affects a child’s daily life and future.

A simple raised bed can:

  • Protect from sickness and disease
  • Improve physical health and brain development
  • Increase school attendance and concentration
  • Provide comfort and peace
  • Restore dignity and emotional well-being

Without a safe, raised place to sleep, children remain vulnerable to illness, exhaustion, and the daily reminder of poverty.

Providing a bed for a child is much more than physical provision—it affects them emotionally and mentally, giving them hope for a better future.

Faith In Action

Through the hands and feet of our trusted partners, the orphans we serve in our care centers are protected, nourished, discipled, and equipped for the future.

The five pillars of care through our faithful partners.

A loving home in a nurturing environment

Proper medical care

Essential nutrition

Biblical discipleship and connection with the local church

Educational support and skills training

However, for our partners who serve in some of the world’s poorest countries, the cost of providing a bed for every child can feel insurmountable. A bed, though vital, becomes a “luxury” they simply cannot afford.

A bed should not be optional or extra because it is foundational to a child’s development.

Imagine the pure joy of an orphan—once abandoned and neglected—who is not only provided with a loving and nurturing home but also their own bed. The first night they sleep on a mattress off the floor is more than comfort; it is stability and hope for their future.

A bed is not extra. It is foundational. To a child who has never had one, it changes everything.

Providing a bed for an orphan reflects the heart of Christ. It’s a tangible way of saying, “God sees you. You matter. You are not forgotten.”

Give a Bed. Give Rest. Share Christ’s Love.

Because No Child Should Have to Sleep on the Floor

Every child is precious in God’s sight and deserves a safe space to sleep. Will you be the hands and feet of Jesus and help a child rest?

A gift of only $100 will provide a bed for a child in need. Your gift of $20, 50, 100 or more will go directly towards a child (or more!) getting their first bed.

Generous donors like you have already funded over 500 beds in 2026 alone!

But we've identified over 8,000 beds needed across Africa and Asia alone. There is much more work to be done to provide good rest to these orphans.

For many, it will be their very first bed. Can you imagine the pure joy on their faces!

Together, we can reflect Christ’s love tangibly—breaking the cycle of poverty and giving children the gift of rest, dignity, protection, and hope.

Absolutely! While this campaign is for a specific one-time need, monthly partners increase our ability to provide steady, ongoing support for orphans and widows around the world. On the donation form, simply select the "monthly" option. Your first gift will go directly to this project, and all future gifts will be a part of our Orphans and Widows fund.
