Escape from Venezuela: A Desperate Journey Into Uncertainty

Struggling Venezuelans living in danger and poverty in neighboring Colombia need our help, now more than ever.

Millions of Venezuelans have fled their troubled country. More than 2.5 million are in neighboring Colombia (600,000 or more are children). Despite its oil resources, this once-wealthy nation is in crisis, leading many Venezuelans to flee to survive.

As non-citizens of Colombia, refugees have few opportunities, leaving them facing many challenges. Sadly, they lack access to basic services such as food, water, shelter, medical care, and education.

World Challenge and its partners have witnessed firsthand the profound physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the refugees. There are struggling families, many with young children, some traumatized by the urgent need to flee their country and leave all they knew behind. With little hope for the future, these refugees desperately need help and hope.

In one refugee community, called Jupta, families are living in extreme poverty in shacks with dirt floors, among trash, and with rats running through their homes. Some are surviving on chicken skins given by neighbors and scavenging for resources.

World Challenge is providing critical help to Venezuelan refugees by rescuing mothers and young girls from being trafficked, helping pregnant women, most of them single, by providing essential resources, offering food and nutritional aid, and sharing Christ and his love in this desperate place.
