The Incomprehensibility of God

Listen to podcast audio:

In our modern understanding, to call someone, especially God, incomprehensible seems offensive, but the incomprehensibility of God does not mean that he is unintelligible or doesn’t communicate well. It means that he is so far beyond what our finite minds can fully comprehend. Gary Wilkerson challenges listeners to learn more about the incomprehensibility of God. If you do, you will be brought to a place of greater reverence and worship of God.

Key Points from the Podcast

  • When we say that God is incomprehensible it could sound like we are saying he is unclear or doesn’t communicate well, but that is not the case.

  • While we cannot know God fully, he does speak and reveal himself to us through creation, scripture, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

  • Understanding the incomprehensibility of God will produce humility in us and reverence for God.

  • Another term for the incomprehensibility of God is the transcendence of God—knowing him fully is beyond our comprehension.

  • The book of Hebrews says that in these last days God has chosen to speak and reveal himself primarily through his Son, Jesus Christ.
