Two Months Starving, Now 12 Years Strong
Martha's life began with unimaginable loss, and God’s intervention brought her into a new home.
Postpartum complications made Martha's mother extremely ill. When she was just two months old, her mother died, and murmurs began to circulate in the family that this new child was somehow to blame. They felt that Martha had caused her mother’s death and was ill-omened.
Instead of being nurtured, the tiny infant was rejected by her family and even the larger community who suspected that she was cursed.
The only one who didn’t object to Martha was her father, but perhaps his apathy to the rumors was because everything was overshadowed by his heavy dependency on alcohol. Left in his care, Martha was severely neglected, and her health deteriorated quickly.
A concerned notification to Agape Hope Children’s Center sent the team into action.
They rescued little Martha, who was malnourished and frail, fading from neglect. They took her straight to a health clinic and consulted with medical staff about how to help her heal.
That was 2013.
Martha has gone from a pale shadow of a child when she arrived to a vibrant pre-teen today.
The team wrote, “This frail, weak baby who was rejected by her family is now a thriving young woman who is the smartest in her class.” Surrounded by a loving family at Agape, she is curious and inquisitive, a bright student who loves science. She is a living miracle, and her ambition reflects it: she dreams of becoming a city planner one day.
Her life is vibrant and flourishing, and her foster family prays that it will glorify God. They believe he has loving plans for her future.
Your support and gifts are making testimonies like Martha's a possibility, and we are so grateful to you!
