The trip to Cairo was incredibly fascinating. We can read books about it, check the Internet for a country profile, or learn its history but it’s the people and their stories that bring it to life and made a big difference.
There are 80 million people in Egypt, 20 million live in Cairo.Half the population lives under $1 a day. The pastors make $100 a month and they need at least $200 to live. And yet they are very welcoming and it’s easy to see smiles on their faces.
We were warmly received by our host and the key pastors. The meeting was very fruitful and the denominational leaders were engaged and are all looking forward to Pastor Dave and Gary’s visit. Their only disappointment is they have to wait until February 2010.

We visited a couple of families who are incredibly poor and live among the dead, literally in the cemetery. They live in the City of the Dead. Most of them are not yet believers and volunteers from the church visit them once or twice a month to deliver food and some cash to help them out. They pray for them and are careful not to convert them as it can mean death, but the Lord is supernaturally revealing Himself to them. In short, they are caring for the poor and interceding much for their salvation.
We were told by our host pastor that there is a phenomenon happening in their country which is unprecedented and it’s incredible. They estimate that there are over one million Muslims who have been visited by the Lord Jesus himself through dreams and visions. Yet they cannot go to church and many pastors are scared to baptize them. By law it is punishable by death to convert. They are learning about the way of the Lord through the Internet. Amazing figures are also happening in Iran where they estimate over three million have been visited by the Lord through dreams and visions.
One side note, our guide who took us to see the pyramids is Coptic Orthodox. He took us to the museum and saw King Tut and many mummies and grand tombs of the Kings of Egypt. We went to the City of Garbage where there is a church carved out of the mountain, the Cave Church. As our guide was telling us the miracle of this amazing story, I asked him if he was a born-again believer and his response was he is orthodox and believes in Jesus. Long story short, he prayed that the Lord will show him how to be born-again. It was so incredible and we felt the presence of the Holy Spirit as he prayed and we prayed with him.
Thank you for praying for us.
