![]() Why seek ye the living amongst the dead?04/29/2010 — Charles Weaver |

In this particular country within Central Asia, the government does not recognize mentally or physically-challenged kids. They are thrown into orphanages early in life. They are not touched, caressed, or hugged; and barely fed. They are there to die without anyone noticing. Their parents only return to bury them.

I stepped inside a completely different orphanage…one that has been transformed by the power of God through donations from World Challenge. I was amazed at what I saw. Kids who were bed-ridden now walk. Kids blinded by malnutrition can now see. Kids with no hands or feet participate in step aerobics, and design beautiful crafts. Staff members seek Christ because of the miracles He has performed in the orphanage.
…and the parents???
There’s a welcoming room for them, and plenty of space for them to interact and play with the very children they gave up out of shame or inadequate resources. They can’t believe their children have come this far. They’re not sure how these kids have come this far. But, they’re asking…and rejoicing because who they once considered “dead” are, in fact, “living”.
Luke 18:15 declares that ‘they brought infants to Jesus so that He could touch them’. Well, He’s touching these kids; and giving them and their parents life!
