Our World Challenge missions team was walking down a dirty hospital hallway when they first spotted little Zamma. The feeble four-year-old girl was sitting expressionless on a mattress with an intravenous needle stuck in her arm. Zamma’s body was covered with open sores, her ears oozing fluid, her neck and scalp covered in sweat.

They have left homes, families, close friends and financial security. They live in tents, war-torn buildings, African huts, South American jungles, and the most troubled areas of urban poverty. They serve in orphanages and in medical clinics, with street children and with hardened prostitutes.

Central America | Managua | Nicaragua: 10.17.05
In August 2005, a team from World Challenge went to Nicaragua as part of a week-long medical outreach in the capital city Managua. The team included a doctor, nurse, and five volunteers. While in Managua the World Challenge team partnered with Clínica Amor en Acción (Love in Action Clinic). Many on the World Challenge team and even some of the clinic staff had no previous medical training. Despite inexperience, God is faithful in equipping those that He calls. All it takes is a willing heart.

Dozens of orphaned children lay neglected in torn, damp cots in a run-down hospital. With a meager staff and scant supplies, the facility couldn’t provide the children with the vital care they needed. Undernourished and suffering, these orphans were starved for love. Some had gone for days without being touched by an adult.

Central America | Haiti | Worldwide: 6.1.05
In May 2005, a team from World Challenge Missions toured the ravaged city streets of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. We were taken to a section called 'the mile' which the World Health Organization recently labeled as having the highest Aids population of any square mile in the world.
The country Haiti brings to mind poverty, violence and voodoo. However, this is only half the story. God is marvelously at work; churches are being planted, orphanage and clinics are being established and outreach teams are ministering in many cities.
