Sofia, Bulgaria Update — April 2005

The Christian evangelical conference with Pastor David Wilkerson and his son Gary was a shaking spiritual event. It came just on time for the Bulgarian pastors and churches. For three days we were on the mountain of Transfiguration. For three days we stayed breathless, struck by the example of deep humility, sincerity and commitment of this servant of God. He hid himself in God's glory to make a way for the glorified Christ. The conference was an answer to the spiritual needs of the Bulgarian believers.

For the most part of the Bulgarian evangelical believers, Pastor David Wilkerson is a well respected Christian teacher and author—charismatic but biblically balanced. At this conference he turned into something more for us—he became our true spiritual father, filled with deep understanding of the pain in the human soul—tender to people and uncompromising to sin.

We believe that God has planned this conference long ago. Maybe Pastor Wilkerson would never know what a strong impact he had upon the evangelical believers in Bulgaria during the long years of the atheistic regime. His book The Cross and the Switchblade was illegally translated, handwritten, distributed and reread many times. It gave strength and passion to the persecuted Christians.

During the days of the conference we witnessed an extraordinary spiritual harvest. We took part in the biggest pastors gathering in our country. In the National Palace of Culture gathered more than 5,000 pastors and believers!

The word of God was fascinating! It brought us back to the roots of Christianity, to the source of life, to Christ Himself! There was a craving and a great sorrow for God. There were a lot of tears of repentance. Every pain was cried out and put in the hand of our Savior! The eyes of the people were filled with the light and the joy of our salvation. Saturated in the glorious presence of God we witnessed the greatest miracles of all: Christ was being formed in us!

Many families with relationship problems were healed. Pastors and believers from different denominations hugged each other and we all felt one, because we saw Christ in the person next to us. Enemies reconciled and barriers fell down. Children and young people came forward to commit their life to the Lord.

This conference changed the spiritual climate and strengthened the work of God in Bulgaria for the years to come.
