What if Cambodia, once a genocidal pit of violence and fear, were to know just how much Jesus loves its people? What if those who grew up under a godless, repressive regime were to hear the good news of Christ and see his love manifested through his dedicated servants? All of this is happening in Cambodia now and World Challenge is overjoyed to be a part of what God is doing in this once devastated land.
Recently we sent a medical missions team into Cambodia’s northern region, where thousands have never heard about Jesus. As our team members served the sick there, they were amazed to hear patients say they had never heard of Jesus. Some village leaders who had heard of Christianity were skeptical of allowing any Christians into their communities. But once they saw our team’s joyful service and love for the people, they opened their hearts and doors to the Christian witness. As a result, multitudes have heard the gospel and experienced God’s presence through hands-on ministry and prayer.

This once-notorious location was transformed into a center of life. Through the medical team’s groundbreaking outreach, a more permanent ministry center in the village is now possible.
Thankfully, Cambodia’s tide has begun to turn. In 1979, after years of horrific and indescribable persecution, it was estimated that only 200 Christians survived the merciless genocide of the Khmer Rouge. Today, an estimated 2,000 churches are thriving, with more than 200,000 believers.
We believe that now is the time for action to increase Christ’s presence in Cambodia. World Challenge supports ministries of church-planting, evangelism and teaching, as well as the medical missions described here, which provide life-saving aid to the country’s very poorest. We have committed to supplying young Cambodian leaders with support and training for church planting and outreach ministries in more than thirty villages. Through their indigenous work, as well as compassionate medical services, more of Cambodia will hear the gospel preached, and poverty and sickness will be reduced.
Please pray for our efforts to act as Jesus’ loving hands in Cambodia. And thank you for helping to make these outreaches possible through your continued support.
