For over forty years World Challenge has been feeding, clothing, educating and meeting the needs of thousands of poor children, orphans and prisoners in strategic areas around the world. We will continue to do so for as long as the Lord enables us.

In addition, through the ministry of Please Pass the Bread, the Lord has led us to focus efforts on feeding in some of the most desperate slums in the world. These communities defy description. Living conditions are deplorable and the filth is unimaginable.

Please Pass the Bread was birthed in the hearts of David and Gwen Wilkerson as a fulfillment of Jesus’ command in Matthew 25 to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison and provide for those in need.

In the Tondo slums of Manila, Philippines, we are feeding malnourished children in five locations. The local pastors we work with are well established in these areas and are bringing the children into their churches, where they are served a healthy meal daily.

In Nairobi, Kenya, we have twelve feeding centers. To our surprise we also discovered a fledgling Bible school within the walls of a large prison where prisoners gather hungry for the truth of God. When asked how we could help, the beloved brother who leads the school (himself a former inmate in this same prison) did not ask for money, but for Bibles, study materials and school supplies. Please Pass the Bread has been privileged to meet these requests, and will continue to do so.

Also in Nairobi, we found a women’s prison where thirty-five babies had been born to incarcerated mothers within the dark, cold walls of the prison. The prisons there do not provide baby food, so even the smallest children were forced to eat adult food, causing damage to their tiny digestive systems. Please Pass the Bread is now providing for these precious babies, meeting other basic needs, and providing personal supplies to the women.

What a joy to see children restored to physical wholeness and to hear of mothers who have given their heart to Christ as they see their malnourished children brought back to life by his love!

In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, we’re feeding children in three centers — working with local pastors who both live and minister in the slums. God has led us to ministries that are entrenched in the local slum communities, who have a keen sense of accountability and stewardship in addition to doctrinal integrity and a love for lost souls.

We are now praying about how we can begin feeding children in some of America’s own neediest cities.

If you are led to participate by providing financial support, please send your gift to World Challenge, Inc., earmarked for Please Pass the Bread. You may also contribute online.

THANK YOU!
