2008 Year-End Missions Update

The task God has assigned to us here at World Challenge is to bring God’s love to the poorest of the poor around the globe. We have walked the muddy slums in Kenya, sat with young people dying of AIDS in Uganda, looked into the eyes of children dying of starvation, talked with refugees who have lost homes, farms, even their families. These are people who have been born into poverty, who have fought to stay alive in the worst imaginable conditions.

What a joy to be able to write to tell you how important an investment our supporters have made. Villages destroyed by floods are being rebuilt, children who were kidnapped and forced into armed conflict are being rescued and restored to their families, and the gospel of Jesus is making marked inroads into places once inaccessible.

Below are just a few of the areas where we are investing in the works of Jesus:

BRAZIL
Armed with machine guns, drug lords roam the impoverished dirt streets of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, one of the world’s most dangerous areas, where even children dodge constant gunfire. In this corrupt environment, World Challenge has helped to establish, build and run a school where the children are educated and receive medical care. Parents, families, drug addicts and even drug lords are coming to Christ as a result of this school.

CAMBODIA
Children are being clothed, fed and educated, learning of the love of Jesus in a growing Christian school.

CENTRAL ASIA
Several hundred handicapped children, abandoned by their families and left for dead by the government, now have a home where they are experiencing loving personal care and are coming to know Jesus.

HAITI
Recent floods have left multitudes homeless and hungry. We are bringing assistance to many by helping them to purchase food and clothing and to restore their humble dwellings.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
We are supporting fearless evangelists who travel this war-ravaged country on small, inexpensive motor scooters preaching the gospel and planting churches.

KENYA
In the horrific slums of Nairobi, little homeless boys spend their days sniffing glue and wandering aimlessly through the streets. With your support, we have helped build a center in the slum, and now dozens of these street boys are coming to Christ, finding new hope and direction for their lives.

EASTERN RUSSIA
There are over 20,000 street children in the region of Eastern Russia, where we have been able to help a local church build a rescue home, purchase a large van for a family with twenty orphaned children and supply food and warm clothes.

UGANDA
As the years of civil conflict have subsided, many families have been left abandoned and homeless. Working with over forty pastors, we are able to bring relief and help to the demolished communities. Your support has helped bring food to the hungry, where the poorest of the poor are being loved and their needs met in Jesus’ name.

EL SALVADOR
We are working with ministries and local churches in jungle villages and have seen a marked transformation taking place: 650 families now have electricity; over 100 families, clean water; and the new health center cares for up to 1000 patients.

Thank you!
